Atomic Garden's story
We didn't set out to open a shop
We just really liked each other.
What started as a connection built on knitting at our kids' soccer games, progressed into a lifelong friendship rooted in community, design, and sustainability.
Somewhere along the way (2007 to be exact) we opened Atomic Garden to share how we were naturally living our lives with our Oakland neighbors.
Though some of the makers we carry in our store have changed over the years, our values have not. We prioritize small production, artisan made goods that are beneficial for people and the planet.
Jamie's Story
A SoCal kid with a vivid imagination
Jamie grew up in a canyon in the Santa Monica Mountains, exploring the hills behind her house and digging for “imagined artifacts” in her backyard. What started as an interest in treasure hunting in the canyon, progressed into a lifelong love for collection and curating. Inevitably, that love carried over into a career in clothing design.
Over time, however, Jamie couldn't unsee the reality of waste and corporate irresponsibility in the industry. As she pivoted to sustainable design consulting, Jamie met Adrienne and Atomic Garden was born.
Jamie brings that same keen eye for curation to Atomic Garden, where she’s turned a lifelong love for design, function, and community into a space where it all fits together perfectly.
Adrienne's Story
A Minnesota girl with a love for vintage
Originally a Minnesota girl with a heart for nature and social justice, Adrienne’s journey has always been about creativity with a conscience. She started out in thrift shops—cutting, sewing, and reimagining vintage finds—before following her heart to the Bay Area.
After working in a plant shop, a music merch company, and an indie record label, she’s returned to her roots.
Adrienne is now channeling that spirit into a new mission: making sustainable living easier while championing the artists and small businesses that keep our community vibrant.
